This past week, racing action unfolded at the MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix and the sixth round of the 2021 DTM season. In off-the-track news, there were driver market announcements in Formula One and Formula E. Here’s all you want to know:
MotoGP
Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia made it two-for-two within seven days by taking his second MotoGP win at the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano. The factory Yamaha of Fabio Quarataro finished a close second, while rookie Enea Bastianini took a brilliant maiden podium for Avintia in third place. In the title race, Bagnaia’s race win closes the gap to 48 points behind Quartararo in the riders’ standings.
DTM
It was a difficult sixth round for Arjun Maini at the 2021 DTM season in Assen. The GetSpeed Mercedes driver qualified ninth for Race 1 but was immediately eliminated after a first-lap incident. For Race 2, the Indian driver qualified eighth but dropped back down to 13th at the chequered flag.
Formula One
Though it was a mere formality, Aston Martin has confirmed that Lance Stroll and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel have been retained for the 2022 Formula One season. That leaves only one remaining F1 seat at Alfa Romeo up for grabs, with multiple contenders in the reckoning.
Formula E
Another piece of the driver market puzzle for the 2021/22 FIA Formula E Championship fell in place, with Venturi Racing confirming its driver lineup. Edoardo Mortara has been retained, and Season 3 champion Lucas di Grassi joins the squad after Audi’s exit from Formula E.
Next week, we will see Formula One and Formula 2 resume in Sochi for the Russian Grand Prix.
